Naomi is a 2026 Conducting Fellow with the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and a participant in the Australian Conducting Academy.
Before to relocating to Sydney in 2026, Naomi developed a diverse conducting career across choral and orchestral fields in Aotearoa New Zealand. She was the Director of the Christchurch Youth Orchestra in 2025 and a New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Conducting Fellow in 2025 and 2023. Her 2025 conducting engagements included NZSO’s Open Doors concerts in Wellington, as well as Stravinsky’s Octet for Wind with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, where she also served as Assistant Chorus Director for their performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Alongside this, Naomi was a choral director at secondary schools for seven years, with her ensembles receiving awards at the national Finale of The Big Sing numerous times.
In 2024, Naomi completed a Masters degree with First Class Honours at the University of Birmingham, where she studied as a music scholar, specialising in symphonic choral repertoire under the mentorship of Simon Halsey CBE. Prior to her time in the UK, she undertook postgraduate conducting studies with Dr. Karen Grylls CNZM at the University of Auckland.
Naomi’s approach as a conductor is further informed by 15 years as a cellist with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. During this time, she performed in symphonic concerts, New Zealand Opera and Royal New Zealand Ballet collaborations, pop concerts, live films, and community engagement projects. She also served as Acting Principal Cello for several months in 2025.
